Purpose

Set the global target cell size in the Mesh generation panel and review the approximate cell count before generating the volume mesh.

Steps

  1. In the Mesh tab, find Cell size in the Mesh generation panel. Review the initial size estimated from the exported geometry volume.

Mesh generation panel showing Cell size, m set to 0.0304 and Approx. cells: 100,050

  2. Enter a positive Cell size in the displayed length unit. Approx. cells updates as you edit the value; a smaller size increases the estimated count. Use local refinement where smaller cells are needed instead of reducing the size everywhere.
  3. Review Approx. cells to assess the mesh size, then generate the mesh and check its actual cell count and quality.

Inputs and units

Input or valueMeaningUnits
Cell sizeTarget global mesh spacing; a smaller value usually produces more cells.m (SI); ft (Imperial)
Approx. cellsEstimated cell count calculated from the exported geometry volume divided by the cube of the global cell size. The example shows about 100,050 cells at a size of 0.0304 m.Cell count
