This topic is opened to discuss meshing a large domain (tank) with small geometric features (pipes). The tank dimensions are about 25 m, while the attached pipes have a diameter of only 10 cm.
In CFxD, the default local refinement is applied to boundary names that contain “wall”. For this reason, “wall” was used in the pipe naming. The large tank surfaces were named “tank”, so refinement was not applied to them.
An example is shown in the first image. Unfortunately, the mesh quality is low because the base cell size is large (0.146 m). To improve the quality, the base cell size can be reduced and/or the refinement level increased. However, these changes produce a larger mesh, which may exceed the Demo mode limit. One attempt is shown in the second image.

We extended the mesh refinement capabilities. You can use local refinement on named surfaces and vloumes (box/cylinder) in new version 2.03.5. The post about update is here: https://cfxd.com/2026/03/17/cfxd-march-17-2026/
