When I’m face-naming after importing a STEP file, Fluent Meshing won’t let me assign unique names to multiple inlets (or multiple outlets) if they have the same shape and area.

My geometry is a tank with several pipes attached: 4 inlet pipes and 4 outlet pipes. All inlet pipes have the same diameter, and all outlet pipes have the same diameter.

If I select the cross-sectional face of one inlet and name it inlet_1, it shows up correctly in the Geometrical Entities window. But when I select a second inlet face and name it inlet_2, Fluent doesn’t create a new named face. Instead, it replaces inlet_1 and renames it to inlet_2. The same thing happens with the outlet faces.

It seems like the software only allows one inlet and one outlet to be named per problem, or it struggles to distinguish multiple inlet/outlet faces when they have identical areas.

Hello,

I think you mean the Geometry (Naming) in CFxD not in Fluent. We tested it with multiple inlets and outlets. It should work. The example is attached. Can you send your step file?

Thank you,

Alexander.

@support Yes, I meant CFxD (not Fluent). This is the geometry I'm trying to work with (test_tank.stp), can you check if this work for you (is there a way I can send you the .stp file)?

It should work. You can attach the file here on forum or send it by email: support@cfxd.com.

Thank you, got it. I see the problem. We have a duplication check to avoid the user's incorrect input. It works well with geometries created in the program as each surface has an unique signature. It looks that it does not work well with imported geometries. We will try to fix it in the next patch. It will be tomorrow or after tomorrow.

Please, update CFxD version with 1.22.3. The issue has been fixed. We open new topic here, as you would have problem to mesh it.
